
Jeff Williams has been a teacher of literacy in Ohio schools for over 25 years, serving as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, Reading Recovery teacher leader, and staff developer for K-12 teachers. In addition to these roles within the Solon City Schools, he also teaches graduate courses for The Ohio State University, training and supervising more than 50 teachers in Reading Recovery in the Greater Cleveland area. Additionally, Jeff teaches graduate courses on literacy development, serving as adjunct professor for Kent State University, Wright State University, and Ashland University. He has provided professional development on literacy practices in more than 30 districts in Ohio and across ten states.
In 2008, Jeff was elected as Assistant Chair of the Elementary Section of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and served on the Executive Committee of NCTE from 2008-2011. He has chaired several NCTE committees including the Government Relations Subcommittee and headed the national NCTE Review Team providing feedback on the Common Core Standards development.
In 2011-12, Jeff was one of two national recipients of the Hameray/Yuen Family Foundation Scholarship to return to The Ohio State University to pursue an intensive year-long Reading Recovery Teacher Leader training.
In 2013, Jeff served as the Presidential Appointee to the Reading Recovery Council of North America Board of Directors and was elected nationally in 2014 to serve as the Teacher Leader Representative on the Board until 2017. In 2016, Jeff was elected as Vice President of RRCNA and will serve a four-year term that will progress from Vice President to President-Elect to President of RRCNA to Past President.
Jeff is a regular speaker at national and state literacy conferences including NCTE Convention, International Reading Association Conference and the Reading Recovery Council of North America Conference. He has co-authored a book, Supporting Students in the Time of Common Core Standards: English Language Arts, Grades 3-5, and a chapter in the book Structural Kindness: Essays on Literacy Education in Honor of Kent D. Williamson from NCTE Publishers. He has also authored and co-authored several articles featured in educational journals such as: The Reading Teacher, Journal of Adolescent Literacy, The Journal of Reading Recovery, Voices from the Middle, Journal of Adolescent Literacy, and The Journal of Staff Development. In 2016, Jeff authored Fables and the Real World, a series of 40 little books for children published by Hameray Publishing.
